Treat Yourself to Great Shoes

I'll admit that shoes used to be nothing more than an afterthought for me. Up until a few months ago, I had exactly three pairs of shoes: one pair for work, one pair for working out, and one pair for everything else. I was fine with that arrangement, but it really infuriated a fashion-conscious friend of mine. "You don't know what you're missing," she told me over and over. "Every woman needs to have at least one pair of really great shoes."

After a few weeks of hearing this mantra on a daily basis, I finally gave in and went shopping with her. We went to an upscale department store and took our time looking around in the shoe section. I wasn't at all prepared for what I saw. Bear in mind that I had never before in my life owned a pair of shoes that cost more than $100. Talk about sticker shock! I couldn't believe the prices. "You get what you pay for," my friend shrugged.

I tried not to think about how long it would take me to pay off my credit card bill and continued shopping. I finally settled on a pair of black Prada loafers that I decided would become my new work shoes. I have to confess that at this point I was actually pretty excited about wearing them the next day.

I hate to say this, but my friend was 100% correct! Right out of the box, my new shoes were the most comfortable pair I had ever worn. They looked great, they felt great, and I got many compliments on them from co-workers. I was amazed that something as simple as a nice pair of shoes could make me feel so good.

So here it is, three months later, and I am still in love with my shoes. I am now an official convert and wholeheartedly believe that every woman does need at least one great pair of shoes. Try it. You'll be glad you did!
